A few days ago Beijing Beichen Yayuncun Automotive Trading Market Center held a national information conference. At the meeting, Wang Cun, senior manager of China National Machinery Corporation, issued data on Chinese imported cars in May this year.

According to statistics, in May, the import volume of customs vehicles was 107,800, a year-on-year negative growth of 7.9%, of which, the number of passenger cars imported was 106,600, a year-on-year decrease of 7.4%, both showing a downward trend.

From January to May, customs vehicle imports amounted to 422,600 vehicles, which represented a year-on-year increase of -12.8%, of which passenger vehicles imported 42.13 vehicles, an increase of -12.1% year-on-year.

From the point of view of imported passenger cars, the imported CAR, SUV, and MPV in May were 36,500, 65,400 and 0.45 million, respectively, with a share of 34.3%, 61.5%, and 4.2%, of which the share of SUV imports continued in a single month. In the first quarter, the share exceeded 60%.

From January to May, the cumulative number of imported passenger vehicles was 421,300, an increase of -12.1% year-on-year, of which the SUV increased by 9.3% year-on-year, and the other two models were negative growth, and the rate exceeded 30%.

In terms of brand, in May, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi ranked top three brands, among which BMW and Mercedes had imported more than 10,000 cars, and the top ten brand share reached 70.5%.

In addition, the imported vehicle structure continues to tilt towards small displacements. In May, the share below 3.0L reached 87.5%, down from 89.4% in the previous month and up 2.7 percentage points from 84.8% in 2012.

In terms of prices, the average price of imported cars in the overall market in May was 43,000 yuan, and the preferential rate was 6.8%. The ring discount rate increased slightly.
