Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire 7-22-14
Here's a report from Eric Haak: On the evening of Tuesday, July 22, just before 6:30 PM, the battalion chief of Chicago's 22nd Battalion arrived at the scene of an active fire in an occupied single-story-and-a-half wooden-frame house. The fire seemed to have originated in the rear section of the attic and spread rapidly throughout much of the attic space. With a three-story brick apartment building featuring wooden porch structures acting as exposure to sector D, and a heat index nearing 100 degrees, the 22nd Battalion called for a Still & Box Alarm within minutes of arriving. Intense flames were venting out of the sector B dormer window and through the roof above, but within a short time, the fire diminished significantly and was brought under control. The truck visible in the photos is Engine 27. This marked the second evening in the past three days that Engines 75 and 62 responded to working fires within their respective districts. The quick response and effective tactics employed by the Chicago Fire Department were crucial in preventing further damage and ensuring public safety.
