Tinley Park Technical Rescue 12-2
This report comes from Dylan Konchan: A box alarm was issued in Tinley Park for two people trapped in a hole. Auto aid from Oak Forest and Flossmoor responded to 18307 White Oak Ct at 6:30 PM. The Chicago Sun-Times reported: Two girls were rescued from a deep excavation hole in their neighborhood in Tinley Park on Sunday afternoon after a wall of mud collapsed, burying them. The incident occurred when one of the girls touched the unstable mud wall, causing it to cave in and cover both of them. Sarah was completely buried in the dirt, while Nicole’s head remained above ground. According to Nicole’s father, Robert Salwierak, there was a small pocket of air around Sarah, allowing her to breathe and speak with rescuers. Fire officials described the situation as a “perfect scenario†for the girls’ survival. It took emergency responders about 30 minutes to carefully dig the girls out using their hands, shovels, and poles. The girls were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox for treatment but were not seriously injured, according to Assistant Fire Chief Steve Klotz of the Tinley Park Fire Department.
