On May 5, the first ultra-large crude oil carrier (VLCC) built by Shuanggong Heavy Industry for Sovcomflot Group (SCF) was successfully launched.
Barge Heavy Industries built two VLCCs for SCF, which will help SCF improve the competitiveness of the global tanker market after the new ship is delivered. In December 2011, PetroChina International and SCF signed a long-term lease agreement, using the VLCC of the SCF fleet to handle crude oil transportation in the Middle East, Western Africa and Venezuela.
The VLCC, built by Barge Heavy Industries, has been named "Svet" and will be delivered in the fall of 2013. “Svet†was originally the first Russian oil tanker built in 1885. It was leased to Nobel Brothers for operation. It has a weight of 1,700 tons, a length of 89.5 meters, a width of 11.6 meters and a speed of 7.5 knots.
