2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 11-23-23

This is from Eric Haak:

Just before sunrise on Thanksgiving morning, a fire broke out at the former Wing Hoe restaurant in Chicago’s 9th Battalion. The building, originally constructed as a private residence in 1913, had operated as the Wing Hoe since 1971. It was currently vacant and set for demolition. In fact, companies had been working inside the structure just the day before. The fire appeared to start in the basement of this two-and-a-half-story brick building. Engine Company 83 tried to get a line on the fire early, but with structural weaknesses and heavy smoke, they had to switch to a defensive operation.

I arrived as the incident was being fully staged. The entire building was engulfed in thick smoke. Engine Company 59 made an entry from a safe position through a rear door leading to the basement, but the fire had already spread significantly. Firefighters used a Snorkel, tower ladder, two RAM units, and several hand lines to bring the situation under control. It was clear that the fire had been burning for some time before crews arrived.

The response was fast and coordinated, with multiple units on scene. I captured several photos showing the intensity of the fire and the equipment involved, including the ACP-55 Cobra, EONE tower ladder, and a Spartan Gladiator unit. These images give a real sense of the scale and effort required to manage the incident.
