Small commercial fire in Northbrook 6-10-11

The Northbrook Fire Department responded to a fire alarm this morning at a floral shop located at 1353 Shermer Road in downtown Northbrook. Emergency calls came in shortly after the incident was first reported, and local police officers were among the first on the scene. They observed heavy smoke pouring from the store’s entrance, prompting immediate concern. Northbrook Tower 12, the department’s primary ladder truck, arrived shortly after and conducted an initial assessment of the situation. As the situation developed, the incident was upgraded from a Code 3 to a Code 4 working fire, indicating a more serious blaze requiring additional resources. In response, units from Glencoe and Northfield were dispatched, along with two engines, two ambulances, and the tower ladder from Northbrook. The coordinated effort highlighted the importance of mutual aid in managing emergencies of this scale. Tim Olk, a local photographer, was on-site and captured several images of the event. His photos show light smoke escaping from the front door of the florist shop, as well as firefighters standing by, ready for their assignments. Northbrook Tower 12 was the first suppression unit to arrive, and Engine 11, a Pierce Impel, quickly deployed a line to the fire. Fortunately, the electrical fire was contained before the additional units arrived, and all responding crews were able to return to their stations without further complications. Tim has compiled a full gallery of photos from the scene, which can be viewed online. His images provide a rare glimpse into the quick response and professionalism of the Northbrook Fire Department during this early morning incident. The fire serves as a reminder of the importance of emergency preparedness and the critical role that local fire departments play in keeping communities safe.
