On August 25, 2010, MABAS-IL, in collaboration with the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), successfully executed a large-scale multi-state mutual aid response drill. The primary goal of this exercise was to mobilize no fewer than 90 fire companies within a 90-minute window at three designated reception sites across the Chicago metropolitan area. These sites included NIPSTA in Glenview, the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates, and the First Midwest Theater (formerly known as Tweeter) in Tinley Park.
Each participating MABAS Task Force was composed of essential emergency response assets:
- 1 Incident Commander
- 1 Assistant to the Incident Commander
- 3 Engine Companies
- 1 Ladder Truck
- 1 Rescue Squad
- 3 Ambulances (Advanced Life Support or Basic Life Support, either privately or municipally owned)
The task forces deployed for this event were as follows:
**North/NIPSTA:** Task Forces 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 20, 29, 101, 102, 107, 109
**West/Sears:** Task Forces 1, 2, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 30, 104
**South/Tinley:** Task Forces 7, 15, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, 207, 3501, 38/25 (two Illinois divisions combined)
It's worth noting that the 100-series divisions originated from Wisconsin, the 200-series divisions came from Indiana, and division 3501 represented Michigan. For detailed maps showcasing the locations of these divisions, you can visit:

A particularly historic moment occurred during this drill when Task Force 109 (City of Milwaukee) joined forces with Task Force 9 (City of Chicago) at one of the staging areas. This marked the first occasion since the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 that apparatus from both cities worked together at the same incident scene.
This summary was prepared by Drew Smith, Deputy Chief of the Prospect Heights Fire Department.
