Box alarm fire in Evanston, 4-8-20

Excerpts from fox32chicago.com:

Evanston firefighters were called to a residential fire on Sunday night at 9:09 p.m. The incident occurred in a single-family home located on the 2200 block of Sherman Avenue.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found the south side of the house fully engulfed in flames, with thick smoke filling the structure. A confused resident was safely evacuated from the front entrance, and the family's cat was also rescued from inside the burning home.

The blaze was quickly brought under control within an hour. The homeowner was taken to the hospital for precautionary evaluation and is reported to be in stable condition. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries—soft tissue damage—and were also transported to local medical facilities for treatment.

Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the fire, and investigations are ongoing. Local officials are urging residents to remain cautious and ensure their smoke detectors are working properly.
