The heavy and general-purpose reducer industry encompasses a wide range of gear systems, including planetary gears, worm reducers, and specialized transmission devices like speed-increasing units, elemental drives, and flexible transmissions. These products are essential in sectors such as metallurgy, non-ferrous metals, coal, construction materials, shipbuilding, water conservancy, power generation, construction machinery, and petrochemicals. The industry is composed of various types of manufacturers, including foreign-funded enterprises, Sino-foreign joint ventures, state-owned companies, joint-stock firms, and individual businesses, with production capacities ranging from several million to hundreds of millions of yuan annually.
Over 100 companies operate with stable conditions and robust quality control systems. In 2005, the total sales of the industry reached approximately 20 billion yuan, with foreign companies accounting for about 25% of the market. In recent years, key domestic manufacturers have significantly expanded their product variety, specifications, and parameters, achieving performance levels comparable to those of advanced foreign counterparts. Some products are even exported to Europe, America, and Southeast Asia, supporting critical industrial applications across the national economy.
China's standard series of universal reducers has grown to include several hundred models, largely meeting the needs of various industries. Based on earlier generations of hardened gear and circular arc worm reducers, new series such as cylindrical and conical gear reducers, along with arc cylinder worm reducers, have been developed and standardized by institutions like Xi'an Heavy Machinery Research Institute. These next-generation reducers not only improve performance but also follow modular design principles, making them more suitable for mass production and adaptable to modern industrial demands. Meanwhile, Nanjing Gaojing Gear Co., Ltd. has introduced its PR series modular gear reducers. However, overall, both domestic and international developments in this field have been slow, leading to a growing gap between China and foreign competitors.
Domestic manufacturers of spur, conical, and worm reducers include companies such as Nanjing High Precision Gear, Ningbo Dongli Transmission, Jiangyin Gearbox, and others. For worm reducers, major producers like Jiangsu Jinxiang Reducer and Shougang Machinery manufacture arc cylindrical, cone envelope, and flat secondary enveloping hourglass types. Planetary gear reducers, such as the NGW series, are produced by companies like Jingzhou Giant Whale, Luoyang Zhongzhong Gears, and Xi'an Heavy Machinery Research Institute.
In the development of special-purpose transmission equipment, Chinese manufacturers have made significant progress. Examples include Chongqing Gearbox’s MDH28 mill edge drive, capable of handling up to 7000KW power, and Hangzhou Advance Gearbox’s 12,000-ton marine gearbox. These products are increasingly replacing imported alternatives, especially in wind power and mining sectors. Large ring gears, such as the 9.936-meter diameter model manufactured by CITIC Heavy Machinery, are now produced domestically and used in large-scale industrial applications.
In terms of new product development, companies like Xi’an Heavy Machinery Research Institute and Beijing Taifuli have introduced energy-saving speed-regulating devices and large three-ring transmission systems that are well-received in the market. Capacity expansion and technological upgrades have driven rapid growth, with many manufacturers investing in advanced equipment such as large gear grinders and heat treatment systems. This has led to increased production capacity and improved competitiveness, though challenges remain due to industry fragmentation and uneven quality levels.
Foreign companies, such as SEW, FLEDER, Brevini, and Sumitomo, are intensifying their presence in China, bringing advanced technologies and management practices. This has intensified competition, pushing domestic firms to enhance quality, expand internationally, and seek strategic mergers and acquisitions to strengthen their market position.
Overall, while the domestic reducer industry has made considerable progress, it still faces challenges in innovation, process optimization, and brand recognition. To remain competitive, the industry must focus on consolidation, R&D investment, and global market expansion. With these efforts, it can maintain sustainable growth and continue to compete effectively against international players.
Drilling tool assembly (P, H, N and B) Relevant description of products: Retrieve the inner tube with an overshot without lifting out the whole rods string to obtain the core, the wireline coring system lifts the underground core sample out of the borehole through the overshot to take back the entire inner tube and conduct sampling analysis. This improves productivity of the work site and guarantees safety of core sample during drilling down. The system is realized through a fully independent inner tube. During its working, the inner tube does not connect with the overshot but locates at the bottom of the coring Drilling Rod directly (behind the coring drilling bit). An assembly device is installed on top of the inner tube, which includes coring and recycling functions. When the inner tube is full of core sample, the overshot is placed to the bottom from the borehole through a steel wire rope and lifted out by a winch. After the inner tube assembly is lifted to the surface, an empty inner tube is placed to the bottom of the hole to recover the drilling. This improves well drilling efficiency. The wireline coring system is applicable for most drilling conditions and standard DCDMA hole sizes (B, N, H and P). Currently, the company provides two models of wireline coring systems: double-tube and triple-tube Core barrel assembly: It consists of inner tube and outer tube groups. The inner part consists of the following parts: spearhead assemly, retrival components, core sample collection component, landing shoulder, stop ring and other parts.inner tube group, independent from outer tube group, collects core sample sample during well drilling. The outer tube part consists of parts , which includes locking coupling, adapter coupling, outer tube, etc. The outer tube group that is kept at the bottom of the hole all the time holds the inner tube assembly during drilling. The triple tube coring system AU3 has the same components as the dual-tube. And its interior has a third tube that is known as liner tube of the inner tube. Liner tube of the inner tube is placed in the inner tube. The triple tube system can realize overall recovery ratio of core sample when drilling stratum with coal, clay or bigger crack. The liner tube or split tube keeps the core sample at its receiving status to collect or load and store easily. Only N, H and P sizes are available for the triple tube coring system.
