ZF Fuao Chassis Technology (Changchun) Co., Ltd., the 15th global branch of ZF, one of the world's top five automotive suppliers and Germany’s third-largest auto parts company, has officially been established. The joint venture was formed by German ZF Group and China’s leading auto parts manufacturer Fu Ao Auto Parts Co., Ltd., with a total investment of RMB 403.47 million. The ownership structure is set at 49% for Fu Ao and 51% for ZF. In the first phase, an additional RMB 434.7 million will be invested, aiming to produce 50,000 sets of front and rear axle assembly modules for passenger cars, 83,000 sets of suspension rods for commercial vehicles, and 82,000 sets of steering rods.
With the rapid growth of China’s automotive industry, the local auto parts sector has gained new opportunities to integrate into the global supply chain. Joint ventures have become a key strategy for Chinese auto parts companies to scale up quickly. Recently introduced administrative measures on imported auto parts that define vehicle characteristics have imposed stricter requirements on localization rates. Combined with the intensifying competition in the domestic market, automakers are focusing on increasing local content and lowering production costs. As a result, many multinational automotive and component giants have partnered with Chinese firms to build manufacturing facilities for critical components like engines and chassis, aiming to deepen the localization of vehicles.
The main products of ZF Fuao Chassis Technology include passenger car front and rear axle module systems, as well as chassis components for both passenger and commercial vehicles. The company already serves major clients such as FAW-Volkswagen, Shanghai Volkswagen, FAW Liberation, and Chery. Notably, it will supply the front and rear axle modules for the newly launched Audi A6L in China.
According to the plan, in 2005, ZF Fuao will deliver approximately 25,000 front and rear axle modules (including pre- and four-wheel drive versions) for the Audi A6L to FAW-Volkswagen. This number is expected to rise to around 45,000 units in 2006. The company is also actively engaging with Beijing Benz, domestic BMW, Beijing Hyundai, and FAW Toyota. Looking ahead, it aims to supply over 50% of its total output to the FAW Group, further strengthening its position in the Chinese market.
