Wang Min, deputy director of the Ministry of Land and Resources, stated at the national geological exploration management conference held here on the 21st that the discovery of a large number of new mineral deposits in recent years has further raised the level of China’s resources. At present, China's foreign dependence on lead and zinc ore ranges from the highest of 30% in 2006 to the current domestic production capacity that has basically met the demand, reversing the past reliance on imports. The degree of foreign dependence on iron ore dropped from the highest 56.7% in 2005 to 51.7% in 2007 and is expected to decrease this year. Potassium salt external dependence also decreased from 90% in 2001 to less than 70% in 2007. The new discoveries in the deep mines of the chromite and nickel mines will also ease the state of over 90% of our imports.
According to the information provided by the Ministry of Land and Resources, since the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, new progress has been made in geological prospecting in key metallogenic belts in China, and there is a significant increase in newly identified reserves of major pillar minerals such as iron, copper and aluminum that are urgently needed in China. increase. There were 1202 newly discovered mineral sites in the country, of which 194 were large and 240 were medium-sized. The iron ore prospecting ushered in a new peak, newly discovered a large-scale, super-large iron ore backup exploration base such as the Gongchangling Iron Mine with an iron ore resource of over 100 million tons; the copper exploration in the western region continued to make important progress. A new development base for the 10-million-ton-grade Tibet Qulong Copper Mine was formed; new prospecting prospects were found in the traditionally advantageous areas of the bauxite mines, and Xinyi bauxite mine in Jingxi County, Guangxi, and Longhe Aluminum in Napo County, Guangxi Province were found. A number of large-scale ore deposits such as earth mines have been formed to form a batch of large-scale bauxite reserve exploration bases; exploration of lead-zinc deposits has achieved important progress and promising gratifying prospects have been displayed. Hubei Shennongjia Ice-hole Mountain Lead-zinc Mine has initially controlled resources 1.8 million tons, Hunan Longshan - Baojing lead-zinc mine has an initial control of resources 2 million tons, Shaanxi Mayuan lead-zinc mine is expected to lead and zinc resources 3 million tons; gold exploration in the old mining areas in the deep and new areas have breakthroughs; The new discovery of potash exploration can relieve the long-term dependency of China’s potash salt on imports. The National Land Resources Survey Project has identified a large potash deposit in Lop Nur, Xinjiang, and has invested in the construction of the country’s second important potash salt. The production base is expected to increase the annual production capacity of potassium salt by 1.2 million tons by 2009.
Wang Min said that the achievement of these achievements has effectively reduced the degree of foreign dependence of important minerals in China. Due to the overall low level of exploration of mineral resources in China, more than 70% of the areas have not yet carried out mineral exploration or exploration, and the extent of identification of more than 10 important mineral resources such as iron, copper, aluminum, lead and zinc is about 1/3. Nearly half of the resource crisis mines have prospecting potential. With the orderly advancement of exploration work, a large number of new mines that can be exploited will also be discovered, which will further increase China’s resource security.
