BSEF plans to introduce bromine flame retardant self-control plan to China

On June 4, Dr. Raymond Dawson, director of the BSEF and director of global fire safety and product application at Albemarle Corporation in the United States, revealed in an interview in Beijing that the BSEF is currently planning to release bromine flame retardants. The Voluntary Action Plan for Control (VECAP) was introduced to China.

On the same day, BSEF published the second annual report of VECAP on the Internet. The report shows that 95% of plastics and textile users in 6 countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom) currently participate in VECAP.

Raymond Dawson said that China is one of the world's most important bromine flame retardant application markets. BSEF is very willing to share the successful experience of VECAP in Europe and the United States with Chinese companies. VECAP's steps in China are actively brewing. . One of the goals of his current visit to China is to exchange and discuss with relevant Chinese government departments and industry organizations, to learn more about the Chinese market situation, and then to formulate an implementation plan that suits China's national conditions.

Raymond Dawson said that VECAP was initiated by BSEF and aims to manage, monitor, and reduce the entry of bromine flame retardants into the natural world through the cooperation of production companies and downstream users in order to reduce pollution and reduce costs. . In 2004, VECAP was first implemented in Europe and made gratifying achievements in three years. The 2007 annual report shows that 95% of users of decabromodiphenyl ether in the EU 6 countries implementing this plan have committed to adopting VECAP's Good Practice Charter to achieve release control. Of these, 97% of the textile industry and 82% of decabromodiphenyl ether in the plastics industry have been effectively monitored. The United Kingdom, which pioneered the program, has already benefited from the promotion of VECAP, in which the release of decabromodiphenyl ether in the textile industry has been reduced by 75% compared to 2002.

In addition, North America began implementing this program in 2006. Currently, 35% of decabromodiphenyl ether users in the United States and Canada have already implemented this program. Japan also established a working group of producers and users on January 22, 2007 to implement a voluntary action plan for the release of hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) in the Styrofoam and textile industries.
