China has become a permanent member of ISO to achieve a historic breakthrough in standardization work
At the 31st ISO Conference that just ended on October 16, passed the resolution to amend the ISO Charter and expand the number of permanent members of the ISO. China ranked sixth in terms of its ISO contribution rate has officially become a permanent member of the ISO. This is the first time that China has entered the high-level seat of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) since it joined the ISO in 1978. It marks a major historic breakthrough in China's standardization work.
In order to deeply implement the scientific concept of development, implement standard strategies, and achieve rapid development of standardization, in accordance with a series of important instructions from President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao on standardization work, the National Standards Committee formulated two stages of China's standardization work from 2006 to 2020. One of the important contents of the development goals is to strive for new breakthroughs in international standardization work, become a permanent member of ISO, and strive for China’s right to speak at the high level of the International Organization for Standardization. The National Standards Commission vigorously implemented twelve reform measures, especially the strategic principle of standardization work based on enterprises, actively guided and promoted China's leading enterprises to participate in the international standardization activities, and realized the leap-forward development of China's standardization cause, so that our country’s The contribution rate of ISO exceeds that of some developed countries. Through active efforts and fruitful work in various fields, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine have fully cooperated with ISO member states, and used diplomatic and business affairs. The way to actively carry out the work, so that China becomes a permanent member of the ISO goal to achieve 12 years in advance.
The conference was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Liu Quan, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China, led a Chinese delegation to the conference. The delegation consisted of the leaders of the National Standards Committee, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance and the Local Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau and the representatives of the companies. All members of the Chinese delegation witnessed the difficult process of the ISO Assembly's decision to expand the permanent members' council and shared the Chinese standardization community. The realization of a major historic dream is an important milestone in the construction and development of China's standardization.
While celebrating China's becoming a permanent member of ISO, we should also soberly see that there is still a certain gap between China's standardization work and the international advanced level. We must make full use of the great opportunity of becoming a permanent member of ISO to further promote the pace of China’s substantive participation in international standardization activities, further consolidate the foundation for participation in international standardization activities, and consolidate and enhance the status in ISO, in order to realize the national economy.
