The largest inland ship monitoring system in China started installation in Yichang

Recently, a major milestone was achieved in Nanjinguan as the first peripheral site equipment, funded with 47 million yuan, and the largest river ship monitoring system in China was successfully installed. This marks the official start of the installation phase for the Three Gorges-Gezhouba Ship Supervision System project, which is expected to begin trial operations in January next year. In recent years, as the Three Gorges Project continues to progress, attention has grown on the safety and development of navigation around the Three Gorges Dam. With the reservoir area approaching its full capacity of 175 meters, the navigational environment has changed significantly. The areas around the Three Gorges and Gezhouba dams have become critical zones for ship passage, leading to increased congestion and more complex conditions. To ensure safe, efficient, and smooth navigation, and to enhance the management and service quality in the region, the Ministry of Communications allocated 47 million yuan in 2006 to develop the Three Gorges-Gezhouba Ship Supervision System. This advanced system integrates data collection, processing, control, and service functions, enabling comprehensive management of maritime traffic and seamless coordination among different departments. The system will cover a 59-kilometer stretch of water from Temple to Miaozui, offering real-time information services and supporting search and rescue operations, emergency command, and production assistance for shipping companies. It represents a significant step forward in modernizing navigation management and improving safety in one of China’s most important waterways.
