2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 2-11-20 (more)

More from Steve Redick on the 2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 2-11-20

Tuesday night around 12:45 AM, Cermak and Michigan. A fire broke out in a dry cleaners and a yoga studio. When I arrived, the bow string truss had already collapsed completely. The fire didn’t seem to spread to either of the adjacent buildings. Those familiar with the area will recognize this was in the old "Automobile Row" district, a historic part of Chicago.

As the fire department worked through the night, it became clear that the structure had suffered extensive damage. The collapse of the bow string truss made for a dangerous situation, and crews had to be cautious as they approached the building. Despite the challenges, firefighters managed to contain the blaze before it could spread further. It’s always sobering to see how quickly a fire can take hold in an older building, especially one with such historical significance. These types of incidents remind us of the importance of fire safety and the dedication of first responders who work tirelessly to protect our communities.
