Buffalo Grove Fire Department officially put their brand new Ferrara Igniter engine (Unit 217) into service just after lunch today. Within three hours, the unit was already out responding to multiple calls. The first two were medical emergencies, and then came a serious incident involving a vehicle that crashed into a building. According to reports, a car had driven into the Rainbow Cleaners located at 482 Half Day Road, near Buffalo Grove Road. Police arrived first and found three people injured, including the driver who was trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters quickly arrived and used specialized tools to remove the roof of the Lexus before safely extracting the driver. Fortunately, the driver did not appear to be seriously hurt. The other two victims signed release forms and were not transported to the hospital. This early response demonstrated the readiness and efficiency of the department's new equipment and personnel. The engine, which was recently delivered and tested, performed well under pressure. Local residents and media were on scene, capturing the action for future reference. The incident highlights the importance of having modern, well-maintained equipment on hand. Buffalo Grove FD continues to invest in resources that ensure public safety and quick response times.
