The passing of a friend … Glenn Bennett, Jr.

Many of our readers knew Glenn Bennett, Jr., who grew up in the area. Others may have recognized him from his long career driving and delivering trucks for Seagrave. For over 30 years, he was a trusted name in the industry, bringing fire trucks to communities across the United States. In April 2016, we published an article about a serious accident that Glenn was involved in. He spent time in the hospital on the East Coast before being transferred to a rehabilitation center in Wisconsin, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Unfortunately, Glenn passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 4, 2018, surrounded by family. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Glenn Bennett Jr. was born on August 25, 1951, in Evanston, Illinois. He dedicated 37 years of his life to serving as a firefighter in both Northfield, Illinois, and the Three Lakes Fire Department. Later in his career, he became an employee of FDW Seagrave, delivering fire equipment nationwide. During the 9/11 tragedy, he volunteered his time and offered support to the recovery efforts. Outside of work, Glenn enjoyed spending time outdoors, working in his yard, fishing with family, traveling to Florida, and sharing a good laugh. He is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Bennett Sr. and Elizabeth Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Anita, and their three daughters: Lauren Madl (Paul), Barbara Bennett, and Ashley Edwards (Bryan). He also leaves behind two grandchildren, three brothers, and two sisters. Anita would like to express her deep gratitude for the love, support, and prayers received during this difficult time. A visitation will be held at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River, Wisconsin, on November 10, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. John Tobin, a close friend of Glenn, shared a heartfelt memory of him on Facebook: > "For every picture there is usually a story, and this one is no exception. One summer, I got a call from my friend, a Seagrave delivery driver, who said, 'John, can you come and help me? I’m stuck in the maintenance pull-off on the Dan Ryan in downtown Chicago and I’m broke down.' I said, 'Seagraves never break down,' and he laughed. The rig had developed an air leak, and he knew who to call. So I jumped in the Suburban, picked up the parts we needed, and headed out. About 90 minutes later, I arrived, and bingo—we got lucky. I had the right part. Glenn, with his big smile and bubbly personality, was back on the road, heading to New Jersey. Glenn was always the biggest ambassador for SFA, and his efforts should never be forgotten. Please take a moment to think of Glenn or drop him a line, wishing him well as he continues to face the challenges life has thrown at him. My thoughts for today." Glenn's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched—both professionally and personally. His kindness, dedication, and warm spirit will be remembered for years to come.
