It is reported that Marlink will provide BP Shipping with a global multi-band high-speed Very Small Hole Terminal (VSAT) service to support the operational efficiency of its fleet and crew communications.
Under the contract, Marlink will provide BP Shipping's fleet of flexible Sealink VSAT services, including mobile satellite system (MSS) backups.
BP Shipping is one of the first shipping companies in the entire oil fleet to use the sea small hole terminal service. The fleet currently operated by the company will use the Sealink Ku band very small hole terminal. BP Shipping's existing vessels will retain their C-band VSAT terminal antennas, enabling Marlink to deliver a truly available multi-band broadband service with global connectivity. The use of dual antennas on BP Shipping's new construction vessel will further increase the availability of very small hole terminal services when approaching may affect satellite line-of-sight operation.
It is understood that the Sealink Ku-band very small hole terminal will provide a globally near higher guaranteed bandwidth than the currently available C-band very small hole terminal, and even higher super-frequency. This will provide a faster data communication connection to support mission-critical IP applications, such as stateful maintenance, significantly reducing equipment maintenance costs. In addition to providing a 512 kb downstream/256 kb uplink committed information rate (CIR) as the standard data rate for service and operational requirements, the Sealink VSAT will be the carrier of BP Shipping's existing voice call system.
By renting (user-defined) specific websites and limiting bandwidth consumption services, Marlink's compression solution will further enhance web browsing and file transfer performance and its network control scheme will help avoid unnecessary loan consumption and prioritize Legal internet usage.
